This beautiful piece is hand-made and hand-painted in village of Palekh, Russia.
Material: Paper-mache
Measures: 2 1/2" Tall
Made in Russia
The box is signed: (down, on the lid, left to right) Палех. / Palekh - "Парочка"/ Couple - Л' (artist's initials). "Парочка" is Andersen's (H.C. Andersen is Danish author) fairy tail about couple of
male and female toys in a toy box.
A rare plot for the masters of Palech,
because in most cases they recreate themes from
Russian folk tales. I link this work to the post-communist era, early 1990s.
Note: The hinge of the top lid is slightly loose, but opens and closes promptly (reder the last picture). Other of that the box is in great vintage condition - no chips, no scratches.
