Description
Beautiful hand-made, originalRussian hand-painted papier mache lacquer box by well known Mstera artist Nikolai Antonovskiy. The box depicts scenes from the Russian Fairy Tale of “The Stone Flower”. It is very detailed and intricate. The work is not dated, but likely comes from the 1950s or early 1960s when Antonovskiy was most active. It is signed in Cyrillic with the village name “Mstera” along the bottom left of the painting and the artist's signature “Antonovskiy” on the lower right. The title of the work “The Stone Flower” is along the top center of the painting. It is in excellent vintage condition with no chips or major blemishes.

he box measures approximately 6 inches long by 4 inches wide and 1 3/4 inches tall.

Antonovskiy, Nikolay Ivanovich (1902-1985)
Member of World War II from 5/9 -1941 to 9/5-1945.
Private, served as an orderly.
The artist is a miniaturist. His works are in the Moscow Art Museum.
