    Description

UPRIGHT 4 STRING WASHTUB DOUBLE BASS.
Called a Gutbucket Bass by some, this instrument plays and sounds like a traditional upright bass.
Its construction is more like a banjo, in that one of the 5 boards that make up the neck passes all the way through the washtub, making a very strong build.
This bass measures about 69 inches from the top of the peg head to the retracted pin on the bottom.
The pin extends 19 inches, making this bass suitable for almost any player.
The washtub is rates as 28gallons, and is 26 inches across the top, 21 ¾ across the bottom and 11 ¾ tall.
The neck is rectangular in shape, its fingerboard measures 1 ½ inch wide at the nut, 3 ½ inch wide at the bottom end and is34 inches long.
The neck, including fingerboard is 1 ¾ inch thick.
This instrument weighs 18 ½ pounds.
The “table” on the front of the tub is ¼ inch fir plywood.
The secondary woods holding the table are yellow pine.
The neck is made from Superior European Beech, chosen for its straight grain and density.
    The fingerboard is hard maple.
These woods were also chosen for their color to make this bass different from traditional instruments.
    This instrument is completely unfinished.
I’ve left it this way so the buyer can put any finish on it he would like.
I would call my hands medium in size; neither large or small (size 9 gloves).
I find the neck and its flat back a good place for my thumb making this bass very comfortable and easy to play.
There is also plenty of room for the buyer to put almost any profile on the neck he chooses.
Weed Wacker strings for Bass have been installed, I cannot recall the maker.
They play nice and easy, but do not have the volume of other choices.
I built this Bass more than 5 years ago and find it holds a tune remarkably well.
It would not be difficult to install a pickup on or in this instrument.
    Additional specific pictures upon request.
I will answer any questions you may have.
The size of this bass means I can only sell it "local pickup only".
Given the age and type of this instrument, it is sold “AS IS”, with no guarantee or warranty implied or offered.
Sorry, no returns or refunds will be considered for any reason.
