    About Russian Lacquer Art
    Russian lacquer art
    developed from the art of icon painting, which came to an end with the collapse of Imperial Russia. The icon painters, who previously had been employed by supplying not only churches but people's homes, needed a way to make a living. Thus, the craft of making papier-mâché decorative boxes and panels developed, the items were lacquered and then hand painted by the artists, often with scenes from folk tales.

    The
    TRINKET BOX
    or TREASURE BOX as it is often called, dates back to Limoge, France in the 17th Century.  It can be used for Secret Messages, Love Notes, Jewelry, Baby Keepsakes and/or other valuables.
    Colors are bright and appealing. Is signed but I cannot make out the name, please see photos. 5.25" long X 3" wide. Great colors and detail. Please see photos as they are my description.
