    Description

This is a vintage Hand Painted and Signed Russian Lacquer Panel, circa 1970, illustrating
    The Tale of Igor's Campaign
    :
    Prince Igor
Svyatoslavich of Novgorod-Seversky set out to war
    against the
    Polovetsians on
May 5, 1185, the day of a solar eclipse.  Despite the bad omen, he had some initial successes, but was eventually defeated and captured.  He later escaped and returned home to Kiev to exhort the Rus to unite in the face of the enemy.
The panel is 16 1/2 in. x 8 in., signed by the artist, and is mounted on a framed plexiglass background - ready to hang.
