CHRYSLER, DODGE, JEEP, VOLKSWAGEN VEHICLES WITH THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR IN THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER.
THE PROBLEM: When you purchase an early Chrysler or Dodge voltage regulator the MAXIMUM MOMENTARY Field Load Rating is about 5 amps. The early 40 to 60 amp alternators had a field draw of between 2 to 3 amps. Plenty of room between the alternator field amperage load of 2 to 3 amps and the 5 Amp overall voltage regulator load rating. Newer type alternators or High Output alternators have a field draw of a little over 5 amps CONSTANT CURRENT. This will peak out your old 5A regulator and burn it out quickly.
Here is a test you can do if you currently have this type voltage regulator on your vehicle.
The test:
Turn as many electrical devices you feel comfortable with, run the vehicle for ten minutes either sitting still or running down the road at high idle lower gear to make the alternator and regulator work harder.
( CAREFUL) Shut vehicle off and right away carefully check the heat on the front of the voltage regulator.
THE VOLTAGE REGULATOR METAL FRONT CAN GET VERY HOT SO BE VERY VERY CAREFUL, I SUGGEST A NO-TOUCH THERMOMETER
Our EXCLU
SIVE, FINNED HEAT SINK GETS THE HEAT OUT. The
ADJUST
ABLE HEAVY DUTY Voltage Regulator
has the
Factory Voltage PRESET at 14.3 volts, but is adjustable from 13.5V to 17V.
This Heavy Duty Adjustable regulator has a 10 amp field load capacity. Great for Engine Swaps or newer vehicle external regulator by-pass conversion. The higher field draw requirements in newer and high output units it can hold up to.
The Cooling Fins give the Quick Start QS8313F Regulator the ability to handle higher alternator amperage loads for longer run times, with greater reliability.
A Finned Heat Sink at the high heat area of the regulator gets the heat out, making the regulator much stronger than
Standard Stock type Regulators, have a lower field rating making them heat up excessively under even standard loads.
Also see # W210 wiring harness for this regulator.
Best for upgrading newer Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Volkswagen vehicles that have the voltage regulator built inside the vehicle's computer. Also used on older Classic Chrysler & Dodge vehicles looking for Heavy Duty Adjustable voltage and higher load capacity than the older Chrysler/Dodge/Mopar voltage regulators can handle
. Run higher amperage loads longer.
