Russian lacquer box with the miniature painting of Jewels ballet, Kholui art
Jewels is a fascinatingly splendid pure dance ballet triptych made by famous choreographer George Balanchine. However the Jewels is plotless, this ballet has its own symbolism of gems that highlighting certain ages in the classical dances of French Classicism (Emeralds), American Modernism (Rubies) and Russian Imperial ballet (Diamonds).
This jewelry box was crafted following the technological and artistic traditions of old Kholui Art. The box constructed from paper-mache. Vividly beautiful are painted Rubies and Diamonds.
Emeralds must be hiding somewhere in the rich curtains that embellish every scene of the box. The scenes are signed with names of gems. The sides adorned with gold ornaments and an emblem of Mariinsky Theatre. The exterior is painted with black lacquer while the interior is completed with red lacquer. The lid isn't hinged.
The work is signed with the artist's name, title, village.
Dimensions: 3.8 x 3 x 2.4 inches or (9.7 x 7.5 x 6cm).
